Today is a national holiday in India - Independence Day!
"India's Independence Day is celebrated on August 15 to commemorate its independence from the British rule and its birth as a sovereign nation on that day in 1947. The day is a national holiday in India. It is celebrated all over the country through flag-hoisting ceremonies.... " (from Wikipedia)
From what I understand it's quite similar to our 4th of July (besides the obvious breaking away from the Brits); everyone is off from work, many have family gatherings or celebrate with friends, patriotic, parades, flags, food, etc.

On a totally separate note; I experienced something today that had not happened yet, I call it "adoption overload." For just a brief time today I didn't want to talk about it, couldn't think about it, plan, pack, look at photos, or even be in the house at all! Luckily, I had a pedicure appointment (and a very chatty salon owner) and also luckily, it didn't last long! Later, after "recovery," I typed up our itinerary (flights, hotels, etc.) and calculated that the grown-ups will be traveling 15, 803 miles (roundtrip) by plane! That doesn't even include the drive to Portland or the drive from Mumbai to Pune once in country in India!

Have a WONDERFUL (exhausting, emotional, possible bureaucratically frustrating) trip!!!!! We are so happy for your family. I hope you don't mind, but I posted your blog on my mommy website. But the other mommies are so wonderful & supportive, I thought they would love to share your story. :-)
