Childproofing Q&A

Okay, so everyone thinks their spouse is a genius from time to time (don't they?); this is a photo of Eric's latest "invention." While working his way through the childproofing checklist over the weekend - regular items like cupboard and drawer locks, safety gates and outlet covers, he figured out this nifty way to secure our very prominent pantry - a window lock! I doubt this is how Pella assumes the lock will be used but it works perfectly!

Question - do people really use toilet seat locks? We think it makes sense to proect the little guy from tumbling in but worry it will discourage the older boys from using the bathroom (we only have one - for now).

The latest news - the agency called yesterday to tell us the "document" - the written notification of the verbal granting of guardianship from July 4th - is not in yet! This is so very frustrating! Because our schedule is quite rigid when we are in India, missing a day really means missing a week - we must fly out on a Tuesday - we will pick up the boys on a Thursday, appear with them in court (in Pune) on a Friday, travel to New Dehli over the weekend (by plane), appear two or three consecutive days (with the boys) at at the U.S. Consulate (visa, immigration, travel medical certificate, etc.) and then fly home! At this point our earliest possible fly away date is August 12th because we have to leave a certain number of days to receive the boys passports (which are processed in India). So, more waiting...........

So sorry to hear about the delays! Toilet seat locks are a pain in the butt and will hinder the older boys. Start out by telling them not to drink out of the toilet too by the way....been there, done that....don't even ask! We just never let the littles in the bathroom unsupervised and at 2, he won't really be in any danger...but he could be a flusher and thus make you best friends with the plumber. :) -Melissa M

From experience as a grandmother toilet seat locks are a great idea although my kids were never ones interested in fishing in the toilet. The problem with them is it's the grandmothers who will be peeing their pants trying to open the darn thing. I equate in similar to technology - kids will have no problem.
